Reviews of Cockerell's
Old Testament Miniatures

"Also known as the 'Maciejowski (mah chay ov skee) Bible,' this is the artistic reference book on 13th C. armour, weapons, and clothing. The basic thrust of this 13th C. manuscript is that it tells biblical tales with the characters clad in the trappings of the mid-13th C. The amazing and highly detailed panoply of arms and armour, as well as graphic (though possibly exaggerated) battle scenes, is probably the thing that Arador readers will find most interesting, though other classes are represented also. In the original copies of the book, there is apparently a brief dissertation by Charles Ffoulkes (The Armourer and his Craft) on the arms and armour seen in the book but in the reprinted versions this has been omitted. Therefore, it is probably most useful to those who already know what they are looking at. -E.S."
